Provided by AGPThe rights group Adalah said in a statement that Brazilian activist Thiago De Avila and Spanish activist Saif Abu Keshek are facing what it described as ill-treatment, psychological pressure, and threats of either death or extremely long imprisonment, according to reports.
These claims were made after lawyers Hadeel Abu Saleh and Lubna Touma visited Shikma Prison in southern Israel, where the two activists are being held. Following the visit, the organization reported concerns about their treatment in detention.
According to Adalah, both detainees have entered the sixth day of a hunger strike, reportedly consuming only water as a form of protest. The strike, they say, is in response to their detention after being removed from international waters during what they describe as a humanitarian mission intended to challenge the blockade on Gaza.
One of the activists reportedly told his legal representatives that he was subjected to repeated interrogations lasting several hours each, during which he says he was threatened with either being killed or facing up to a century in prison.
The group also claimed that conditions of detention include exposure to very low temperatures, along with blindfolding whenever the detainees are moved, including during medical checkups.
Adalah has called for their immediate and unconditional release, arguing that their detention procedures are unlawful and should be halted, according to the statement.
