Security Incident Near White House After Law Enforcement Shooting
(MENAFN) US Secret Service personnel responded on Monday to an officer-involved shooting close to the White House complex in Washington, D.C., according to official statements shared on social media.
Authorities said the incident occurred near 15th Street and Independence Avenue, prompting an immediate emergency response and a security lockdown in the surrounding area. The public was urged to avoid the location while the situation was being secured.
Officials confirmed that law enforcement opened fire during the encounter, with one individual struck. Their medical condition has not yet been confirmed.
A Secret Service official later stated that officers identified a person in the area as suspicious during routine patrols. The individual reportedly attempted to flee on foot before producing a firearm and firing toward agents and officers, according to the account provided.
Authorities added that a bystander was also affected in the incident. The injured person was described as a minor and was taken to hospital for treatment, with officials saying the injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.
