Philippine Volcano Erupts, Spews Ash as Alert Level Remains
(MENAFN) A volcano in central Philippines has erupted, releasing an ash plume that rose around 800 meters (2,624 feet) into the atmosphere, according to reports.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the eruption from Kanlaon Volcano occurred shortly after sunrise on Tuesday, with ash drifting westward.
Authorities have kept Alert Level 2 in place, indicating ongoing volcanic unrest, as reported by local media.
In the past 24 hours, the volcano has shown continued activity, including several ash emissions, volcanic earthquakes, increased sulfur dioxide levels, and signs of ground deformation.
Officials have urged residents to avoid entering the 4-kilometer (2.4-mile) permanent danger zone, warning of the possibility of sudden explosive activity.
The situation remains under close monitoring as scientists track further changes in volcanic behavior.
