Drone Targets Iraq Oil Site as Middle East Tensions Escalate

(MENAFN) A drone came down at the West Qurna 1 oil installation in southern Iraq on Tuesday, Iraq's Security Media Cell confirmed, according to Iraqi media, as regional hostilities continue to simmer.

In a separate incident, a rocket slammed into a residential property in the Tharthar area of north-central Iraq, though authorities reported no casualties or secondary explosions, media noted.

The incidents unfold against a backdrop of deepening regional instability, sparked when Israel and the United States jointly launched an offensive against Iran on Feb. 28 — a campaign that has since left more than 1,340 dead, among them former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

In retaliation, Tehran has unleashed successive waves of drone and missile strikes across the region, with Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf nations hosting U.S. military personnel all bearing the brunt of the assault. The strikes have generated mounting casualties and widespread infrastructure damage, while sending reverberations through global markets and severely disrupting international aviation, the report said.
