CAIR denounces Pentagon’s approval of fighter jet contract for Israel
The Council on American-Islamic Relations voiced strong opposition to the $8.6 billion agreement, arguing that the deal sends the wrong message at a time of widespread international concern over Israel’s military actions in Gaza.
"At a time when human rights organizations around the world are condemning the Israeli government’s ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people, the Pentagon’s decision to funnel billions of American taxpayer dollars and advanced weaponry to the Israeli military is morally indefensible," said CAIR National Deputy Director Edward Ahmed Mitchell in a statement.
Mitchell’s comments followed the awarding of the contract to Boeing under what is known as the F-15 Israel Program. According to official statements, the agreement covers the production of new combat aircraft for Israel’s air force.
"This contract provides for the design, integration, instrumentation, test, production and delivery of 25 new F-15IA aircraft for the Israeli Air Force with an option for an additional 25 F-15IA aircraft," the Pentagon said in a statement.
Mitchell argued that the deal reflects a broader pattern in which defense firms and foreign governments continue to profit despite allegations of serious human rights violations.
"It is a reward for genocide, paid for by American taxpayers," he added.
He urged US authorities to suspend weapons transfers to Israel, push for accountability regarding previous military assistance, and work toward what he described as a fair and lasting peace.
The Pentagon’s announcement was made shortly after a meeting between the US president and the Israeli prime minister in Florida, where the Israeli leader also held private discussions with the US defense secretary, according to reports.
