US Coast Guard Pursues Third Venezuela-Linked Tanker

(MENAFN) The United States has attempted to intercept a third oil tanker connected to Venezuela within less than two weeks, with the Coast Guard reportedly engaged in “active pursuit” of the vessel in international waters of the Caribbean Sea, according to American officials cited by media outlets.

Authorities claim the ship is operating under a false flag, making it subject to a judicial seizure order. They described the vessel as part of Venezuela’s “dark fleet,” allegedly used to bypass Washington’s unilateral sanctions.

Although the tanker has not yet been boarded, a successful operation would mark the third interdiction since December 10. On that date, US forces seized the vessel Skipper, followed by another ship, Centuries, on Saturday.

This latest attempt comes shortly after President Donald Trump declared a “total and complete” blockade of oil tankers under US sanctions entering or leaving Venezuela.

Officials have not formally identified the vessel, but media reports suggest it is the Bella 1, previously sanctioned for transporting Iranian oil. US officials stated the ship refused to comply with boarding orders and continued sailing, prompting what one described as an “active pursuit.”
