Russian Envoy Goes to US for Updates on Ukraine Peace Talks
Last month, a peace plan prepared by the administration of US President Donald Trump was leaked to the press, sparking intense diplomatic exchanges among American, European Union, Russian, and Ukrainian officials.
The initial 28-point blueprint reportedly called for Kiev to abandon its claim to Russia’s Donbass territory, give up aspirations of joining NATO, and accept restrictions on the size of its military, among other major stipulations.
Since then, Ukraine and its European allies have sought to introduce their own terms, seemingly in an effort to dilute the original draft. Moscow has insisted it will adhere to its established red lines.
Speaking to journalists on Sunday in the US, Dmitriev remarked that those attempting to prolong the Ukraine conflict have failed to obstruct discussions with Trump’s team.
Peskov added on Sunday that Dmitriev will “receive information on what the Americans and the Europeans have worked out” before reporting back to Putin.
