Iran: U.S. Military Threats Against Venezuela Would Destabilize Peace

(MENAFN) Iran has issued a sharp rebuke of American military threats targeting Venezuela, with Tehran's top diplomat warning that such action would shatter international law and destabilize global security.

Abbas Araghchi, Iran's Foreign Minister, delivered the condemnation during a Sunday telephone conversation with his Venezuelan counterpart, Yvan Gil Pinto. The diplomatic exchange covered bilateral relations and evolving circumstances across the Caribbean, Iran's Foreign Ministry confirmed in an official statement.

Araghchi characterized potential U.S. military intervention as a flagrant breach of core international legal frameworks and the United Nations Charter, asserting it would endanger stability both regionally and worldwide.

Tehran pledged unwavering support for Venezuela's government and its citizens, with Araghchi emphasizing that the global community must take a firm stand against what he termed illegal unilateral measures. He reaffirmed Iran's backing for Venezuela's democratically elected leadership.

The Iranian diplomat highlighted the robust partnership between the two nations spanning multiple sectors, stressing that leadership in both capitals remains committed to deepening cooperation grounded in shared strategic interests.

Gil Pinto expressed gratitude for Iran's principled position and solidarity with Venezuela's elected administration and populace. He underscored Caracas' unwavering commitment to protecting national sovereignty and independence from foreign interference.

Washington has deployed substantial naval and air assets throughout the Caribbean for nearly four months, with considerable forces positioned near Venezuelan waters. U.S. officials justify the buildup as counter-narcotics operations, but Venezuela has rejected this explanation as a pretext for orchestrating government overthrow in Caracas.
