EU presidents vow to boost defense alliance with Ukraine over Russia
At a shared news conference, European Council President Antonio Costa announced that the bloc’s meeting, scheduled for October 23rd and 24th, will be “decision day.”
Costa informed the journalists that “in two weeks, the European Commission will present the roadmap on 2030 defense readiness, and the European Council will meet again in three weeks, and that will be decision time.”
Mette Frederiksen, the Danish PM cautioned that Russia was “threatening us, testing us, and they will not stop,” emphasizing the necessity for better support for Kyiv.
She said “first of all, we have to step up our financial support for Ukraine,” and she also mentioned that “everybody knows now what is at stake…our main goal is to build a Europe so strong that war is simply not an option.”
A highly controversial topic has been European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen's suggestion for a "drone wall," a system intended to counter the rising use of pilotless aircraft in combat.
