Suspect in Kirk’s Assassination Admits Guilt Online Before Arrest

(MENAFN) The individual accused of killing conservative activist Charlie Kirk reportedly confessed to friends in a private online chat shortly before turning himself in to authorities, according to media on Monday.

Kirk, aged 31, was fatally shot on September 10 while speaking to students at Utah Valley University in Orem, located about 40 miles south of Salt Lake City. Tyler Robinson, 22, was taken into custody in connection with the death of the right-wing commentator.

A message from Robinson’s account on Discord, an online platform, revealed: “Hey guys, I have bad news for you all," followed by, “It was me at UVU yesterday. I’m sorry for all of this," according to two individuals familiar with the chat, cited by media.

The confession was sent Thursday night, roughly two hours prior to Robinson’s arrest, officials said.

The message was shared with a small private group of friends on Discord, sources told the newspaper anonymously.

Discord is cooperating closely with the FBI and local law enforcement by providing data related to Robinson’s activity on the platform, the source added.

Screenshots of the conversation obtained by media show group members reacting to news of Kirk’s shooting on Wednesday—before Robinson’s alleged involvement was public.

The private chat included about 30 participants, one source revealed.

“Charlie Kirk got shot,” one member posted on Wednesday afternoon.

Approximately 90 minutes later, another user responded, “I just saw the video holy s---,” adding, “Bro didn’t deserve to go out like that sad.”

Robinson’s sole reply arrived Thursday evening, delivering his grim announcement.

“I’m surrendering through a sheriff friend in a few moments,” the message stated at 7:57 p.m. Utah time. “Thanks for all the good times and laughs, you’ve all been so amazing, thank you all for everything.”

FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed Monday that DNA evidence collected at the scene matches the suspect now in custody.

“The FBI investigation remains ongoing,” Patel emphasized, noting that agents are still interviewing witnesses and analyzing forensic evidence, including cell phone records and DNA samples. Results are being shared with both local and federal prosecutors to inform charging decisions, he added.
