Musk asks Twitter if he should create political party reveals irony

(MENAFN) Elon Musk has intensified his criticism of a sweeping legislative package supported by President Donald Trump, declaring he will create a new political party if the bill moves through Congress.

“It is obvious with the insane spending of this bill, which increases the debt ceiling by a record FIVE TRILLION DOLLARS that we live in a one-party country – the PORKY PIG PARTY!!” Musk wrote on X.

He followed that statement by saying, “Time for a new political party that actually cares about the people.”

If the bill is approved, Musk said he would immediately establish a new political force, which he called “the America Party,” emphasizing the need for a viable third party to offer citizens a genuine choice beyond the two dominant ones. He expressed his belief that both Republicans and Democrats are no longer representing public interests, saying the country requires a new direction “so that the people actually have a VOICE.”

In another post, Musk condemned lawmakers who had promised fiscal responsibility but voted in favor of the bill. He stated they should “hang their heads in shame” and predicted they would face defeat in their primary races next year.

Reports note that Musk’s once-friendly relationship with Trump has sharply deteriorated, especially after Musk began criticizing the legislation in late May. Their former alignment has since turned into a very public dispute.

In June, Musk floated the idea of launching a new political movement, asking his 220 million X followers whether it was “time to create a new political party in America that actually represents the 80% in the middle.”

He later showed support for a follower’s suggestion to name the party the “America Party,” a name that echoes the America PAC, a political group Musk introduced the previous year. That organization reportedly spent $239 million supporting Trump and various Republican candidates in the 2024 election cycle.
