Amazon Invests to Expand Data in Australia
“We’re taking advantage of the AI revolution – the Australian way. Amazon Web Services’ $20 billion investment in data centres in Australia will set us up for the future, boosting our economy and productivity,” Anthony Albanese posted on X.
His statement highlights how this financial injection is expected to strengthen Australia’s technological and economic future.
Amazon described the investment as the most substantial global tech commitment ever made public in Australia. The initiative aims to meet rising needs for cloud services and artificial intelligence, promote the integration of AI technologies, and help modernize enterprises of varying sizes across the country.
“This is a huge vote of confidence in the Australian economy,” Albanese also remarked, emphasizing the significance of the announcement.
In addition, the technology conglomerate will finance the development of three solar energy projects located in Victoria and Queensland, aiming to secure more than 170 megawatts of clean energy capacity.
Australia’s Department of Industry, Science and Resources projects that automation and AI will increase the country’s gross domestic product by as much as AU$600 billion (USD391 billion) annually by the year 2030.
Global technology leaders are increasingly investing in infrastructure to satisfy the escalating need for generative AI and cloud computing technologies.
